Laurence Anthony is Professor of Educational Technology and Applied Linguistics at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University, Japan. He has a BSc degree (Mathematical Physics) from the University of Manchester, UK, and MA (TESL/TEFL) and PhD (Applied Linguistics) degrees from the University of Birmingham, UK. He is a former director and current technical English program coordinator at the Center for English Language Education (CELESE), Waseda University. His main interests include corpus linguistics tools development and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) program design and teaching methodologies. He received the National Prize of the Japan Association for English Corpus Studies (JAECS) in 2012 for his work in corpus software tools design.

Stefan Th. Gries is a professor of English Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, the United States. His recent research focuses mainly on the area of Corpus Linguistics, especially in quantitative approaches and statistical methods and techniques for both corporal analysis of language and language application in education. He has published extensively in the areas of Corpus Linguistics and grammatical analysis of ESL learners from multiple language background.

■Moonsub Han

Professor Moonsub Han studied for a BA in English Education at Seoul National University, Korea and achieved an MA and Ph.D. in TESOL at the University of Texas at Austin, USA. After returning to South Korea, he taught theories of English Education at Ewha Woman’s University and Inha University and now he is teaching at Hanyang University as a professor. His areas of specialization are Second Language Acquisition, Teaching Methodology, Program Development, Teacher Training, and Evaluation. He has been actively working as a program developer in many areas such as international teacher training, college English programs, business English programs, etc.

Cai Jigang is professor of Foreign Languages and Literature Department of Fudan University, China. He is chair of the Shanghai Advisory Committee on College Language Teaching and vice president of the Chinese Association for ESP. His research interests range from contrastive linguistics to applied linguistics. In the recent years, He is active in promoting the implementation of ESP at tertiary level in mainland. In the past 5 years he has published more than 30 papers on ESP and EAP in many important academic journals, arguing for the necessity of the shift of English teaching focus at tertiary level from EGP to ESP.

■Winnie Cheng

Professor Winnie Cheng is Associate Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Professor of English and Director of Research Centre for Professional Communication in English (RCPCE), Department of English, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Her research interests include ESP, intercultural pragmatics and communication, corpus linguistics, conversation analysis, critical discourse analysis, and discourse intonation. Her book publications include Exploring corpus linguistics: Language in action (2012), A corpus-driven analysis of discourse intonation (2008), and Intercultural conversation (2003). She has published over 80 journal articles and book chapters.
